The Dark Signatures

Hand-carved ornate wooden frames, deeply set with velvet-lined sides and back. Each shadowbox is richly decorated inside — dried flowers, insects, and intricate ornamental details. Even the back is finished with black velvet and delicate lace trim. Every piece is a cabinet of curiosities, sealed behind glass and built to last a lifetime.

Each Silent Companion is made to order for its future keeper. Eyes and tongues are hand-carved and hand-painted. Ears, horns, paws, feet and accessories — every detail is chosen by the one who will keep them. No two are ever the same. His name was never meant to be spoken above ground.

Kerberos — from the Proto-Indo-European ker, meaning spotted, or perhaps from kreoboros — flesh-devouring. Scholars argue. The etymology does not care.

He has three heads because the dead arrive in three states: those who know they are gone, those who do not yet understand, and those who refuse. He watches all three with the same patience. He has had eternity to practice.

He does not hunt. He does not punish. He simply stands at the place where the path ends — and makes sure nothing turns back.

Not out of cruelty.

Out of necessity.
