Some birds are born knowing they deserve better than a branch.

This one has clearly known it for some time. He sits — or rather, presides — in his hand-cast baroque frame, ringed in black lace and draped in fine chains that catch the light in the manner of someone who has never once rushed anywhere. His collar is small, immaculate, and bears a single wax rose, deep red, because of course it does. Upon his head rests a tiny gold crown — modest in size, entirely immodest in implication. The frame itself is cast and painted by hand: matte black with accents in rose gold, the kind of finish that does not ask to be noticed but tends to be anyway. Two types of lace. Chains that drape with precisely the right amount of drama. A black velvet interior, naturally.

He is not looking at you. But he is aware of you.
