Witch's Familiar | Gothic
A one-of-a-kind handmade piece — dark, devotional and quietly unsettling, for those who keep old things close and stranger things closer.
At the heart of this composition rests a real preserved toad skeleton, mounted against black crushed velvet within a heavy hand-cast baroque frame finished in antique gold. Below the skeleton, a hand-cast and hand-painted cross — aged to match the frame, adorned with motifs that speak of the toad's old familiarity with the in-between places. At the base of the frame, a small antiqued plaque reads: Witch's Familiar.
The back is finished with lace trim and bears the Morbid Oddities studio label.

There are witches who keep cats.
There are witches who keep crows.
And then there are the older ones
the ones the forest knows by name
who keep a toad beside the door,
patient as stone,
watching the road
with eyes like old amber,
remembering every soul
that ever passed through.
