At first it was just a skull. I'm sure of that.

Then I stopped being sure.

Something kept rearranging when I wasn't looking.

Not moving — rearranging. Like it already knew where things should be.

The ears came first. Too warm.

The eye came later. It was already open.

I tried to fix it. It fixed me back.

It doesn't decay. It doesn't sleep.

But sometimes it forgets what it is… and tries something else.

I hear it breathing, but the air doesn't move. Like it's practicing.
