When I was little, I wanted a creature that didn't exist. Something between a cat and a rabbit — soft and strange and a little bit dark, the kind of companion that lives at the edge of dreams and watches over you while you sleep.
I never found it. So eventually, I made it.
The Bunny Kitten series came out of that childhood longing — the dream-creature I always wanted, finally given form. Not soft toys, not illustrations. Real. Bone and velvet and hand-painted wood. Something you can actually have beside you.
What Is a Bunny Kitten?
At its core, a Bunny Kitten is a real cat skull — cleaned, preserved, treated with the same care I give every specimen I work with — mounted within a hand-finished frame and given a new identity through the addition of preserved animal elements: rabbit ears, rabbit paws, sometimes pig ears, sometimes sculpted horns, sometimes something I haven't named yet.
The frame is always hand-finished. Sometimes cast, sometimes carved, always painted — dark wood, baroque ornament, the kind of frame that makes you feel like you're looking at something that belongs in a cabinet that has been locked for a century.
The velvet is always deep. Purple, black, navy, red — the colour chosen for the character, not for convention.
And then there are the details. Lace. Crystals. Crosses. Dried flowers. Miniature objects chosen because they belong to this particular creature and no other. Each Bunny Kitten is its own character — with its own name, its own lore, its own reason for existing.
Every One Is Different
This is the thing I want people to understand about this series: there is no template.
I don't make the same Bunny Kitten twice. The skull is always different — different size, different character, different presence. The ears are always different. The frame is always different. The story is always different.
Some are dark and ceremonial, heavy with ritual symbolism. Some are softer — almost tender — with dried flowers and pale lace and the feeling of something that was loved. Some are strange in ways I can't fully explain, where the combination of elements produces a character I didn't anticipate and couldn't have planned.
That's the part I love most. The moment when a piece stops being a collection of materials and becomes a someone.
Christ Superstar
Of all the Bunny Kittens I've made, Christ Superstar is the one that still stops me when I look at it.
A real cat skull. Crowned with the ears of a white albino rabbit — enormous, soft, the kind of ears that hear confession and do not judge. White and gold lace frames the skull like a collar worn by someone who has been canonised against their will. A golden Sacred Heart — Sacré-Cœur, crowned with thorns, burning — rests between two small white rabbit feet arranged in the posture of supplication, or surrender, or both. A small cross rests in the jaw. A white quartz moon hangs above like a halo that has slipped. A raven perches at the crown.
She suffered. She was patient. She is not patient anymore.
Christ Superstar is a ready-to-ship piece — one of a kind, already finished, already herself. She will not be made again.
